I feel that the internt is like a mask. It covers the user's face and protects the user, allowing the user to get away with internet crime and not be caught for it. At the same time, the internet allows the user to search for true information but at the same time, the user needs to search for tue information. Therefore, we need to be very careful and not fall in to false information
Once, I thought that all the information in the internet is true but now, I not very sure. In my opinion after going through PBL exercise, I think that internet is like a wall and a net. It is a wall because it put a barrier between us and the person we are chatting with through the internet, causing the fact that even if we got cheated, we could not find that person at all as that person is using a false identity to create the account. However, it is like a net too as whatever we post on the net will be seen by everyone else so if we post something fake on the internet, we maybe able to deceive the entire person besides us but can we lay to the whole world? The answer is no. When the thing we post on the internet is fake, there surly will be something weird about it and the internet users will start commenting about it and finally, the truth is out. Take for example the fake Tibet photo. The photo was so well made that it deceived a lot of people until the internet users started commenting that part of the photo is different from the other part and finally the photographer admitted that he have spliced two shots together to create the image, causing a Chinese editor to resigned. So I think that internet is also like a net to catch the fake things the people post on the internet. Therefore the internet can be considered both good and bad.
I once feel that internet can be trusted at least for 100%. Now through this lesson, I have learnt that Information on the net may not be true. Example, the picture that Mr Lam showed us: “Chinese editor resigns over fake Tibet photos it seem so real yet it is edited. The other one on Faith hill , She look so pretty on the magazine cover yet in real life, she looks just like any normal housewife. I think everyone should be cautious when you surf the net. check the the resource you found whether is it is true by comparing with other sources. Now ,I think that internet can be very dangerous if you are that kind of person who is very gullible, be careful so that you will not fall onto the “internet trick’.
Before I learn Media Literacy, I thought almost everything on the Internet was true. Every time when I do research on the Internet, I would just copy and paste, but I never double check whether the information was true. I always think that the Internet was bound to be true, except for the games that I normally play as I would also fake my identity. However, ever since I learnt about Media Literacy, I start to think another way "Are the information on the Internet true at all times?" I hope everyone will think twice before you even start on copying the information on the Internet.
Up till the time when Media Literacy was introduced to me, i had thought that stuff on the internet was reliable but it turned out to be not. Like many people, i would just copy the stuff that i wanted and paste them.Take for example the fake Tibet photo. It was so well made that it deceived a lot of people until the internet users started commenting that small parts here and there are different. Thus, we must be careful when we are online.
I think that the internet is starting to sound like as if everything is fake. There are prople all around in the internet causing harm.Example people getting your personal particulars to "kidnap" you, people spreading viruses through e-mail attachments to wreck your computer, selling items but never actually give you the item after you pay for it.the internet is just for people to trick unlucky people.Just for the sake of money. On the other hand, people who knows how to avoid these frauders, may find the internet to get information.colaborate their work.To them ,it is a tool to help them in theirwork/studies Jeffery Kwoh Ji Hui (29)
I think that after all these things the world have done to create the Internet, I feel that the user identity in the Internet is still pretty much exploited and people will not have a crystal-clear understanding of the Internet and how it really works. Fraudsters have countless chances to rid you with your personal information and eventually, your money and your identity. This, in turn, makes people masquerade their identity, which makes the Internet unreliable to see who is on the other side of the line. In this vicious cycle, we must try to break it, for the Internet to become a more reliable place.
I think that Internet sources is too open to public to edit so fake information will be shown in the Internet. If we want to get the real information, we must be observant too look out for places that are not logical so we can know how accurate is the information. Nobody knows what will happen the next minute, so we need to make use of the skills we know to find accurate results so nobody will fall under the prankster's trap.If th prankster fail trick any of us, it means that we will not be laugheed by other people.
I think that Internet is like a thousand-face person, the information is updating every minute. But we do not know whether it is real or not. Hacker can break into your account and use your name to trick people and other people will take you as the prankster while you are innocent. Prankster use fake identity to create fake information and if we did not check and use it, we will be laughed by others. We must make use of the skills we learnt in Media Literacy to fight with them so we will not be trick again.
Before I learn Media literacy, I thought that everything on the internet is true. But after I learn Media literacy, I knew that not all information on the internet is true. As compared to before, I will now check if my source is reliable and will not only copy and paste the information. I also know that people actually fake their identity on the internet and I began to doubt and check on the identity of the people on the internet. I think that Media Literacy lessons are very useful to me. And I finally know the danger on the internet.
i think internet is just like a facade,an illusion and supiificial appearance. Some information you see and read seems to be true but they are not exactly what they seem to be.We ought to be more careful while surfing the net because the internet is not very safe and the information you see on it is not all true.We must not wholeheartedly believe in whatever we see unless we have sufficient proof. One example is the tibet photo,it managed to cheat so many internet surfers and it was only after such a long period of time that they discovered the fraud. We must aadmit that the internet is a really amazing thing but you also have to say that it is quite a dangerous place because you might get cheated without knowing it.so there are the pro's and con's of the internet. Thus we should be vigilant while surfing the net. Sylvia Gwee Xiao Wei (17)
Just before the media literacy lessons, I thought "Internet is real! Internet is very true! It is not fake!" I believe this as I could find many useful sources in the websites, in the internet. But right after the first media lesson, i found out that everything i could see in the internet, in the magazines, 99.9% of things in it are false. False! Very small bit of things in it are real. Like Onn Seng mentioned, the internet is like a mask covering other people's identity, I also agree with that. The great internet is also bad too even though many people confessed that internet is the truth. The bad thing is that the internet prevented the true indentity of users to be revealed. Some users are people with false identity and also called con-men and fraudsters. The fraudsters would play pranks on you, trick you, same as con-men. They would simply invite you to a deserted plae where you never knew and rob or kidnap you. You will never know. To get money from you, they would just simply create a webpage or blog, paste some pictures in it, and bluff people in the internet and trick them to buy their "things". Some idiots or people who got fooled would pay their money for something they wanted to buy. The con-men and fraudsters would just grab the money the tricked people had paid for the "something" they wanted to buy and escape. You would not receive anything but whereas lose some money. You would also never know. To conclude all, I think we should stay away, from "dangerous" websites or chatrooms where con-men or fraudsters would usually been in. To find informations you need for projects, you may also try to stick to reliable websites.
I feel that certain Internet references are not very reliable. For example, Facebook, a large number of people fake their identities so as to not let other people know the person's real identity and the person would be able to cheat other people without others knowing his or her identity. To find the important information you have to possess for projects, you might try check the information with other websites.
Before Media Literacy, I thought that everything and anything on the Internet is very real, even the games which we teenagers play so often these days. From my experience, the Internet is like a loudspeaker. People from all over the world communicate with each other through the Internet, but cannot really see each other. They can talk, but cant see. People these days are also being cheated and tricked often on the internet and in games. Like from one of my experiences, when i used REAL LIFE money to exchange into "game money" , I did not receive the "game money" after paying in REAL LIFE money. Information on the Internet nowadays are also very fake, contrary to popular belief. So people, think twice before downloading or copying fake info/data wif virus inside.
Before learning media literacy, I already knew that there are some people faking identities out in the internet. I am one of them too, but i only use it for good purposes. There are alot of people out there who fake their identities for both good and bad purposes. For those people who uses fake identities for bad purposes, they usually use it for illegal usage, such as conning people into buying their things and then in the end, they did not receive a single thing from the seller. I at first thought that the photographs on the magazines is true, but it is actually 0.01% of the photographs are true. I feel that faking people in this way is too cruel, but not as cruel than the internet. It sometimes drive people mad to get the shape of the models and and these people pays with their health and money.
I feel unprotected and cheated as there might still be ppl out there in the internet world faking their indentity and selling illegal stuffs, giving wrong informations, cyber bullying and others. I think that such cases can be prevented from happening. All schools in Singapore should start educating pupils the right way of treating the internet resources and the consequences of cyber bullying for both parties-the bully and the victim. With such educations, i believe that such cases will be reduced to the minimal.
I feel that, we still have to use the internet whether we like it or not as it is a very important source of information. After this PBL exercise, we just have to be more carefull in choosing what information to believe. There are pranksters in the internet just trying to be funny but they do not think through what trouble they could get into if caught. I now know that not all information on the internet is true, some might just be a hoax . We still have to use the internet. Thus we just have to be more carefull on the internet.
I used to think that all the stuff on the internet was true too. Before learning media literacy,I used to copy and paste information on the internet without checking with another source. Now I know that the information on the internet is not always reliable and we should not trust them so easily. There may be pranksters out there, changing and editing information on the internet. We just have to be more careful and it is always safer if we check the information with other sources first.

shermin_12 journal i think that i trust the internet too much after lessons on media literacy.internet should be a place where people can do research, but some people like to misuse it.they faked their identities and change information on websites.i use to copy and paste information blindly at first.after media literacy lessons,i learn that information on the internet may not always be true.there are few ways to check if they are true.one way is to check with other sources to see if they are consisten.
Before learning media literacy, i thought that wat was written on the internet was true. i use to copy and paste information which are from the internat. now, i know that not all information on the internat is reliable. there are pranksters out there editing the information on the internet. i learn that we should check the information that we get with other sources before using it.
I was amazed when i found out that there were so many false things on the internet, like wikipedia, pictures, etc. i also learnt how to determinen if pieces of information on the internet are fake or even look for fault lines in pictures so as to determine if the pictures are edited.I feel thatw e should not trust the internet so much and try to look into reference books for information as they are much more reliable and they give consistent information. Now,i will not believe any more information on the internet, only until i check with the authors and check for more pieces of the same news for consistency.
I felt I was stupid last time. Last time I thought all pictures were real, all infomations in internet are real, but now i know. They are fake. All fake, but actually not really all are fake. The infomations given by some others like google and yahoo may be real. My blog post are also real too, I only exaggerate a little. After I learnt this, I usually show off to my cousins and even my parents. (exaggerate again).
I feel that it is not very safe to surf the internet and I have to be careful and not to fully believe the information on the Internet. When looking for pictures on the internet, I also have to be careful. I used to think that most of the pictures on the internet are real, but now I know, some of them are fake and edited by photoshop. Also, I learnt that some of the information given by others on the Internet may be fake and that i should not tell others too much information about myself on the Internet. I have also learnt that some of the information on wikipedia are fake. Before learning media literacy, i thought that wat was written on the internet was true. i use to copy and paste information which are from the internet, but now, i know that not all information on the internet is reliable. There are pranksters out there editing the information on the internet. I learn that we should check the information that we get with other sources before using it.
I used to think that we should believe what we see on the internet, but now I have learnt that we should not always rely on the informations found on the Internet. They might not be real. I have also learnt that we should check to see if information found on a certain website matches with the other information found from other websites.
I think that after everything I've learnt from the Media Literacy lessons, I now know that not all the information I get from the Internet is not true. I used to get all the information to do my homework from the Internet without double-checking if it is true. Now, I know that there are people out there editing and changing the information we get from the web. I learn that we should check with other sources about the information we get. I also learnt that when looking for photos to add in my projects or other things, I will have to be careful because some of the photos are not real as they have been edited. For example, the fake Tibet photo which was once a prize-winning photo. The photo had been edited so well that it managed to deceive a lot of people until some Internet users noticed that part of the photo was different. Finally, the photographer who edited the photo admitted that he had edited it and then he resigned. I think that we should always be careful when using the internet.
Name: Koh Jing Xuan(07) I think that internet quite unsafe because some people fake identities so they are strangers to us. Thus, we might have a chance to interact with internet cheats. So we have to be careful with who we chat with in chat rooms. I also learnt that information on internet can be fake. One example which many groups in my class work on is information on Wikipedia. Some people fake as professors and edit the information posted on wikipedia, providing fake informations. Some people also post fake pictures on the internet, such as cropping two pictures and joining them together to form a new picture. Another example is, some celebrities' figures are edited, such as making them look slimmer or prettier. I think we should be more careful when using the internet.
After being through the PBL leassons,I feel that I don't really trust Wikipedia that much already. In the past, I would always use wikipedia to search for information for all of my projects. Now i finally know why does my friends always argue with me over the project.I will always watch out when I am in a chat room or playing online game as people can fake their identity when in chat rooms or online games. For example , a old man might fake his identity as a young and handsome man and send a fake photo to girls so that they will think that he is speaking the truth . I feel that if any person ask for my information like where i live and those type of stuffs.I will just ignore them.
Media Literacy has helped me realised that not everything on the internet can be trusted. Before the commencement of Media Literacy lessons, i always thought the internet never lied. Through the numerous Media Literacy lessons, i grew to learn that seeing isnt believing. I have also learnt that i should not give out my personal information to people in chat rooms, etc. I will definetly be more mindful when i am on the internet.
After going through this PBL exercise,i view the internet from a whole new angle. The internet is not honest anymore, but it has become a countless faced liar, lying everyone to the internet.I think this is safe but at the same time, dangerous,as people use this so called benefit to cheat others for their own gain.I lied to people on the internet using fake identities, which is normal for everyone and safe,BUT,i never did cheat someone for my own gain. However, there could never be no bad eggs anywhere,so,we would just have to keep our guard at all times when meeting someone or something new on the internet.
I was shocked when I found out that so many sources that i used to trust actually contain false information and pictures. (eg. Wikipedia, magazines.) Now, I have learnt from my lesson and will not trust information unless verified. I will only believe that a piece of information is true when I find another piece of information somewhere else that runs consistently with it.
I learnt that the internet can be a very dangerous thing as it can contain alot of photoshopped things e.g pictures and videos.I also learnt that we cannot really believe what we see on the internet as it might not be real.We also cannot rely on the internet too much or we might get cheated but i still think that the internet is also a very useful thing as i can know alot of things just by typing the keyword in any search engine. To prevent getting false information i can also double-check with other source to make sure that i don't get the wrong information.
I feel that i cant trust the net anymore after knowing the shocking truth. But some website still give some real Infomation which is useful and helpful to us. so i will still find my Info on the internet
I feel that we must not believe everything we see on the internet. There have been many cases of people putting false information on the internet, and when somebody read the website they would think that the information is true resulting in many believing the information.I feel that we should check with several websites first before confirming the truth of the infomation. Besides surfing the internet ,We can also check more about the information from watching television news and from the radio. From all this option,I feel that watching news from the television can get a more correct information than surfing the internet. erhsiancong(26)
I felt that the internet might not be as safe as we think it might be. There might be some hidden threats or scammers, waiting to prey on innocent people. The internet do have its advantages and disadvantages, such as it can help us to complete our schoolwork on time and it can also help us to find information on our homework and helps us to complete out work in a more efficient manner. I will still continue to use the internet, despite the risks. But on top of that, I will still remain alert when I'm using the internet.
I feel that the internt is like a mask. It covers the user's face and protects the user, allowing the user to get away with internet crime and not be caught for it. At the same time, the internet allows the user to search for true information but at the same time, the user needs to search for tue information. The con-men and fraudsters would just grab the money the tricked people had paid for the "something" people wanted to buy and escape. You would not receive anything and you will also lose your money. You will never know what will happen to you.

i think that i trust the internet too much after lessons on media literacy.internet should be a place where people can do research, but some people like to misuse it.they faked their identities and change information on websites.i use to copy and paste information blindly at first.after media literacy lessons,i learn that information on the internet may not always be true.there are few ways to check if they are true.one way is to check with other sources to see if they are consisten.

ReplyDeleteBefore learning media literacy, i thought that wat was written on the internet was true. i use to copy and paste information which are from the internat. now, i know that not all information on the internat is reliable. there are pranksters out there editing the information on the internet. i learn that we should check the information that we get with other sources before using it.

ReplyDeleteI was amazed when i found out that there were so many false things on the internet, like wikipedia, pictures, etc. i also learnt how to determinen if pieces of information on the internet are fake or even look for fault lines in pictures so as to determine if the pictures are edited.I feel thatw e should not trust the internet so much and try to look into reference books for information as they are much more reliable and they give consistent information. Now,i will not believe any more information on the internet, only until i check with the authors and check for more pieces of the same news for consistency.
ReplyDeleteI felt I was stupid last time.
ReplyDeleteI feel that it is not very safe to surf the internet and I have to be careful and not to fully believe the information on the Internet.
ReplyDeleteWhen looking for pictures on the internet, I also have to be careful.

ReplyDeleteI think that internet quite unsafe because some people fake identities so they are strangers to us.

ReplyDeleteAfter going through this PBL exercise,i view the internet from a whole new angle.

ReplyDeleteI feel that i cant trust the net anymore after knowing the shocking truth.

ReplyDeleteI felt that the internet might not be as safe as we think it might be.
